Express Import

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about importing and buying a Chinese EV through Express Import.

Import Process

How long does the full import process take?+

The timeline depends on the model, whether the car is already at port or needs to be factory ordered, the way of transport from China, and the customs and UK registration procedure. New car orders usually take 10 to 20 days, depending on the factory. Domestic transport to the port and export customs clearance takes about 7–10 days. Transport by sea takes about 45–50 days, by train 15–20 days. UK customs clearance and UK registration take about 5–10 days. Cars currently in stock at port in China can typically be delivered to the UK within 6–9 weeks; cars to be ordered from the factory within 8–11 weeks, covering shipping, customs clearance, and UK registration. We provide a clear estimated timeline when you place your order.

How does UK registration work?+

Once your vehicle arrives in the UK, we manage the final UK registration process on your behalf. This takes place after import and your car will be fully registered before handover.

Are the cars right-hand drive?+

Yes. All vehicles we import are right-hand drive, built to UK specification.

Costs & Pricing

What costs are included in the price?+

The prices shown on our website are the vehicle price at port in China. Additional costs include international shipping, UK import duties, VAT, and UK registration fees. We provide a full transparent cost breakdown in your personalised quote before you commit to anything. There are no hidden fees.

Do I need to pay import duties?+

No. All vehicles imported from China into the UK are subject to import duties and VAT, and we cover those costs. The exact amount depends on the vehicle value and current UK tariff rates. We calculate and include all duty costs in your upfront quote so you know the total price before signing.

Warranty & After Sales

Is the car covered by warranty?+

Because all imported cars are Chinese specification, there is no Chinese manufacturer warranty, but we supply all cars with a 2–3 year warranty by DEFEND Car Protect; this depends on the specific model and configuration. We confirm warranty status in your personalised quote. Regardless of warranty status, we provide local after-sales support in the UK.

What happens if something breaks or needs servicing?+

We provide local after-sales support for all vehicles purchased through Express Import via fast delivery of spare parts. For warranty claims you are directly covered by DEFEND Car Protect. For routine and warranty servicing, we work with qualified service partner Bosch Car Service across the UK. Chinese EVs use standard components that are increasingly supported across UK service networks.

Test Drive & Buying

Are the cars road legal when they arrive?+

Vehicles require UK type approval and UK registration after they arrive; this is a standard part of the import process that we manage entirely. Your car will be fully road legal before we hand it over to you.

Can I arrange a viewing or test drive?+

Contact us to discuss availability. As an import-to-order business, vehicle availability for viewings depends on current stock. We are happy to arrange viewings where possible and can provide detailed photos, videos, and specifications for any model. Some models we will have as showroom cars available for test drives.

Can I see and inspect the car before it arrives in the UK?+

All cars are deeply inspected by our partners in China before shipment, with detailed photos and video provided. Contact us directly. We are happy to help.
